Part of our wedding gift was a set of All-Clad Stainless pans. I've never really bought pans before, most I have were hand me downs from family. They were usually the target specials; Teflon wok/frypans with plastic handles and some nice brandname like Calaphon or something. I never had any complaints about them. They got hot. They were easy to clean. They didn't fall apart. So when we started looking for some nicer pans to cook with, I didn't really think there was a big difference between a $19.99 saute pan and a $179.99 saute pan. For me, as long as the handle wasn't covered in rusty spikes and the cooking surface got warm enough to kill of salmonella I was satisfied.
However, now that I have cooked with these All-Clad Stainless pans, I have touched the face of the culinary gods. These pans are worth every copper-cored cent. Not only do the spread the heat evenly and warm up amazingly fast, they make food taste better. How, you ask? I believe that when hand-forged in Italy by skilled artisans, these pans were infused with spices that the modern world had forgotten. These pans actually clean themselves overnight and when rubbed counterclockwise with a polishing cloth, a genie appears and grants your every desire. Also included was a life-time warranty that promises that they won't discolor or rust and will eventually end world hunger if mailed to a third-world country along with $1.15 a day. Did I mention that we got a steamer as well?
I exaggerated slightly, but they do cook food evenly and warm up quickly. Unfortunately they scratch easily and are a pain to clean.
