battle of the bands
I've had two songs fighting for airtime in my brain ever since yesterday afternoon. Bad things happen.
My confession for today is that I used to listen to Depeche Mode in Jr High. I'm not sure why I switched radio stations, but if I hadn't changed my listening habits in 9th grade I'd might be goth...
Bad things happen and one part of my brain wants to believe that everything has a purpose and that God gives and takes away. I want to believe that God's hand is lovingly crafting and shaping us even though it hurts. Blessed be your blah, blah, blah.
Right now a larger part of me has a few lines of Depeche Mode repeating over and over...
I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors,
but I think that God's got a sick sense of humor
and when I die I expect to find him laughing

another day
another lexan drinking bottle. We have bar review companies and study aid companies swarming our building and handing out freebies like mold on my three-day old pumpkin.

angry bees of language.
sorry for not updating recently. I've been meaning to but the hours slide together, the days enmesh and the weeks are indistinguishable. I wake up at 7:30 and catch the bus by 8:20. I sit in class frantically jotting down notes and burning through highlighters as if they were cigarettes. During lecture I go through a rollercoaster of emotions. At one point I have my hand raised in righteous indignation at the unfairness of a court ruling, the next I'm wishing I could dissolve into my chair, hoping by sheer will power that I can make the professor's eyes pass over me without notice. Half the time I feel like I understand what the discussion is about and long multisyballic words pop into my head chaining together into coherent thoughts. Other times I feel like I'm in a warzone trench while bullets of vocabulary whiz overhead. I'm just an unfortunate observer caught in the crossfire of greater minds.

out of context
I was skimming the recap of the sonics/rockets pre-season game on seattletimes.com. Right next to a picture of Dikembe Mutombo making a layup over the Sonic's red-headed, 7 foot, jr high center Robert Swift the text read,
"Swift scored 12 of his game-high 17 points in the fourth, and Head knocked in a pair of three-pointers..."
My initial thought was that it was a sign of the apocalypse, the Sonics had a legitimate big man. I was floored that this skinny, pale kid was somehow a scoring machine that could post up on Mutombo and score at will. Then I read the rest of the paragraph.
"... the last coming at the 1:13 mark and lifting the Rockets to a 91-83 lead, effectively ending the chances of a Seattle comeback."

Oh... Stromile Swift, not Robert Swift. Nice work Seattle Times.

my new goal pt. 2
Have you ever had a dream where you somehow end up in a public place naked and you spend your dream pretending that you have clothes. You walk around knowing that you're naked, but you're wondering why people don't notice. I am living that dream. I'm a wound up ball of anxiety, waiting for people to discover that I'm really a dumbass.
